Making a Jello Animation (Soft bodies) by Coby Walker
Didn't work for you?Don't know what to do? There is a forum for this here: Blender Jello Forum
We are going to make this animation using soft bodies.
Important info:To see your animation at anytime hold right. But EVERY TIME you change something you have to go back to slide 1
The floor and walls:
Keep the basic cube.
Enter Edit mode (Tab)
Then delete the bottom right vertice on the top( Right-Click vertice, Delete).
Select all of the points (A), then press (Ctrl+Shift+N) to make it know that the faces are inside the cube not on the outside.
(Tab) out of edit-mode, (now you can color the scene).
Also press (S, 5), this will skew or stretch the scene for the Jello to fit in it!
The Jello Cube:
Add a cube.
Click on the Physics screen button
Then under the Soft Body tab enable Soft Body.
Disable "Use Goal" this is only if you want it to land in a specific place.
Also enable "Stiff Quads", this will give it a Jello look not a let it just collapse.
You can leave everything else alone
Here is what I ended up with:
Now click the scene and under Collision enable "Collision", this is so the jello doesn't fall threw it (having a collision).
Improving the Jello animations movement
Who just wants to see a cube bounce up and down?
Were going to give it a little more movement.
Select the Jello
Switch to front view (Num 1), and rotate it by 40 degrees (R, 40).
Switch to side view (Num 3), and rotate it by 40 degrees (R, 40).
Improving the Jello animations color
Its always good to have a dark background to make it show up. How to make the Jello change colors
We are going to insert a Keyframe every 50 frames of a different color.
Go to frame 1. Remember: use left/right arrows. Where is what frame i'm on?
Now make the color Red and then press (I) and RGB (Red Green Blue)
Go to frame 51 and make the color Orange and then (I, RGB)
Go to frame 101 and make the color Yellow and then (I, RGB)
Go to frame 151 and make the color Green and then (I, RGB)
Go to frame 201 and make the color Blue and then (I, RGB)
Go to frame 250 and make the color Purple and then (I, RGB) Improving the Jello's apperence
Under the Material buttons in mirror Transparency, we are going to enable Ray Transparency.
This will let us see threw the Jello and not just be a solid color.
Set the IOR to "3.00", Frasnel to "1.3", and Fac to "1.48".
Heres what I have:
Now you can see threw your Jello!
Improving the Camera and Light
Its a good idea to put the light where it can shine threw things, and reflect
Its also good to put the camera where it can see everything.
Here is where I put the Camera and Light:
Saving the animation
All you have to do is change "Jpeg" to "AVI CODEC"
Then click "ANIM"
Congratulations you are finished! Your animation will be in "C:\Tmp"
As always Happy Blendering!
